About Us

Our Story
The Good Earth Café is a family-owned breakfast and lunch cafe owned by Todd and Michelle Girdis now located in the Towers at River in downtown Holland Michigan. Since 1999, The Good Earth Cafe tradition had been carried on by Dave and Cheryl Koeman from the founders Nick and Ann Cappeletti. Nick and Ann created the famous Good Earth bagels and cream cheese along with delicious breakfast casseroles and great coffees. Dave and Cheryl carried on the legacy of The Good Earth Cafe, listening to their guests and making changes to broaden the breakfast and lunch menu with more sandwiches, soups and salads than what was offered before. This continued further with the addition of artisan breads as well as wraps and panini sandwiches. After 20 years of showing the community love and support, Dave and Cheryl placed the business up for sale after demonstrating what Cheryl said best, "We love learning from our guests. They know what they like and want; and we love to try to please them." In January 2024 Todd and Michelle purchased the business and began the process of finding the new home for The Good Earth Cafe.
Todd and Michelle found a new home for the cafe in the Towers at River, a mixed use residential/commercial 5-story building located about a block down E. 7th St. from the old location. Located on the 2nd floor of the building the new location offers the downtown Holland's only elevated view of the surrounding city landscape with floor to ceiling windows along the 6th St. side of the building. After all the paperwork and finances of transferring ownership and completing the buildout of the new space, The Good Earth Cafe reopened in June 2024 to a great ribbon cutting reception attended by previous patrons, the business community and former owners Dave and Cheryl Koeman. To get to the new cafe location, customers should enter off E. Seventh Street by passing Big Lake Brewery on the right and using the last driveway on the right before River Avenue into the parking ramp of Towers at River. There's 12 dedicated parking spots available inside the ramp and guests enter the building inside the ramp and follow the building directory to the entrance of the cafe.
Todd and Michelle now carry on The Good Earth Cafe traditions. Guests will experience the unique tin ceiling, fish tank, seating and tables, library and more from the old location with new features offering a meeting space area, a fireplace and a beautiful elevated view to enjoy during their breakfast or lunch. On a visit to the Good Earth you will find a unique breakfast and lunch menu offering – of course the Good Earth original bagels and cream cheeses as well as delicious breakfast scrambles, breakfast and lunch featuring artisan bread sandwiches, paninis and wraps along side scrumptious fresh baked daily muffins, cookies, and more. For those who need that extra push or just enjoy great coffees and espresso, The Good Earth Café serves daily fresh ground coffees, lattes, chai, and cappuccinos. If you have an event, business meeting or small group gathering, reach out to Todd and Michelle along with their staff on this website to discuss breakfast or lunch catering options. They look forward to seeing you, listening to how they can improve, giving back to the community and understanding how to best serve you, your family, coworkers or friends for years to come!
